This page covers the vehicle, driver, and document requirements, provincial regulations, and insurance you need to drive with RydeHub in Saskatchewan. To apply, submit an application in the RydeHub Driver app or on the web. To be approved, you must meet every requirement below and keep your documents current.
What you need to drive with RydeHub
To be approved to drive, you must meet the requirements below and keep valid, current documents on file to prove your eligibility. If a required document expires and you don't update it before the expiry date, your account is temporarily deactivated until you do.
You upload and renew all of your documents in the RydeHub Driver app.
Vehicle requirements
Your vehicle must meet all of the following:
- Model year within the last 10 years (10 years or newer)
- 4 doors
- 5 to 8 seats, including the driver's
- Not a taxi, stretch limousine, or rental vehicle
- Not titled as salvage, non-repairable, rebuilt, or any equivalent classification
- Registered and insured in Saskatchewan, and in good mechanical condition
Driver requirements
- A valid Saskatchewan driver's licence: Class 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 issued in Saskatchewan. A Class 5 licence with a Novice 1 or Novice 2 restriction is not accepted.
- A temporary licence is accepted, but you must upload your permanent copy once you receive it. Learner's permits, out-of-province licences, and graduated licences are not accepted.
- At least 2 years of driving history for drivers holding a Class 5 licence. Any supplemental non-Saskatchewan driving history must also be sent to SGI (driverrecords@sgi.sk.ca) or it can't be counted.
- A smartphone that can download and run the RydeHub Driver app.
Document requirements
Before your first trip, upload and keep current each of the following in the RydeHub Driver app:
- Driver profile photo
- Saskatchewan vehicle registration and insurance documentation
- Light Vehicle Inspection Certificate
- Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
- Driver's abstract
- GST account number
- Proof of work eligibility
Vehicle registration & insurance
Your vehicle must be registered in Class LV (light vehicle) with a current registration that complies with The Vehicles for Hire Act. Once RydeHub submits your information to SGI (Saskatchewan Government Insurance), a rideshare indicator is added to your vehicle registration. You can print the new certificate from home and must keep it in your vehicle. It is also proof that you hold SGI personal vehicle insurance.
Vehicle inspection
Your vehicle must pass an annual inspection and receive a Light Vehicle Inspection Certificate, which you must keep in the vehicle at all times while driving. Use an inspection station accredited by SGI.
Criminal Record Check & Vulnerable Sector Check
You must pass a Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) before your first trip.
- In Regina, obtain a Criminal Record Check with a VSC from the Regina Police Service, either through their online records-check portal or in person. When requesting your check, list the purpose as "Rideshare" and the requesting agency as RydeHub, and make sure every detail matches what you uploaded in the app. If you're approved, the police share the result with RydeHub and issue you a Certificate of Approval that you do not need to upload.
- In Saskatoon, obtain your VSC from the police service where you reside or from any RCMP detachment, then upload photos of your results in the RydeHub Driver app within 90 days.
Driver's abstract
Request your Saskatchewan driver's abstract from SGI and upload it in the RydeHub Driver app.
GST account number
Drivers in Canada are required to register for, and remit, Goods and Services Tax (GST). Register with the Canada Revenue Agency and add your GST account number to your driver profile.
Proof of work eligibility
Upload one of the following documents, which must contain your name:
- Passport
- Citizenship card
- Work permit
- Study permit
- Certificate of Indian Status
- Canadian Forces Identification Card
RydeHub vehicle decal
Approved drivers must display the RydeHub decal while in driver mode. The decal is RydeHub's official trade dress. It helps riders and law enforcement identify your vehicle.
Display the decal in the lower passenger-side corner of both your front and rear windshield every time you enter driver mode. You'll receive your decals shortly after you're approved; if you don't get one or need a replacement, contact driver support. In the meantime, you can print a temporary decal from the app.
Saskatchewan driver regulations
Follow these rules whenever you give rides in Saskatchewan, and check your email for important updates from RydeHub.
Driver-mode time limits
RydeHub's standard daily time limit for driver mode applies in Saskatchewan. Once you reach the limit, you must go offline and rest before driving again.
Best practices
- Display all required decals and stickers
- Always carry your driver's licence and insurance document
- Follow all airport rules, and don't wait in taxi lines
- Keep your vehicle clean and in safe working order
Be prepared for inspection. You may be asked to have your vehicle and documents inspected if you're stopped by law enforcement or a city official requesting a ride for the purpose of an inspection. Drivers who fail this inspection may be suspended from the platform.
Items to keep in your vehicle
- Vehicle registration and insurance
- Light Vehicle Inspection Certificate
Know your insurance
Under The Vehicles for Hire Act, every on-demand driver must carry the SGI rideshare endorsement on their vehicle registration, and your personal auto policy must permit rideshare activity. Confirm your coverage with SGI or your broker before your first trip.
RydeHub does not provide, arrange, or guarantee automobile insurance for you, your vehicle, or your passengers. Maintaining valid coverage is your responsibility. Full details of RydeHub's platform coverage for this province will be published before launch.
