Plain Language Summary
OOT (Out-of-Town) hosting lets you share a long-distance trip you were already planning to take with riders heading the same way, and split your costs. You are not a commercial driver and you are not allowed to make a profit. The money you receive (a "Contribution") only helps cover your fuel, tolls, and vehicle wear for that trip. RydeHub is just the technology platform that connects you with riders; we do not provide the transportation, and we are not a party to your trip. Because this is cost-sharing and not a business, your own personal auto insurance is what applies. Please confirm with SGI / your insurer that you're covered. Please read §3 (no profit), §5 (insurance), and §9 (cancellations) closely.
1. Acceptance & Relationship
By listing or hosting an Out-of-Town trip on RydeHub, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these OOT Host Terms ("Host Terms"), the Privacy Policy, and the Community Guidelines, each incorporated by reference. These Host Terms form a binding agreement between you ("Host," "you") and RydeHub Inc. ("RydeHub," "we," "us").
These Host Terms govern only your activity as an OOT Host. If you also drive commercial on-demand or intercity rides, that activity is governed by the separate Driver Agreement. If you also ride as a passenger, that activity is governed by the Rider Terms of Use.
If you do not agree to these Host Terms, do not list or host OOT trips.
2. What OOT Hosting Is (Definitions)
- Out-of-Town (OOT) Trip: an intercity journey between Saskatchewan communities that the Host independently intends to make for the Host's own purposes, and offers to share with one or more Riders travelling along the same route.
- Host: a private individual who offers to share their own pre-planned OOT Trip.
- Rider: a person who books a seat on a Host's OOT Trip.
- Contribution: a sum agreed and paid through the RydeHub platform that goes toward covering the Host's reasonable costs of the OOT Trip (fuel, tolls, and vehicle wear and tear). A Contribution cannot, and is not intended to, generate profit or income for the Host.
- Service Fee: a separate fee RydeHub charges the Rider to operate the platform. The Service Fee is RydeHub's, not the Host's, and is shown to the Rider before booking.
OOT hosting is a peer-to-peer cost-sharing service. It is legally distinct from commercial transportation and is not regulated as a vehicle-for-hire service under The Vehicles for Hire Act (Saskatchewan), provided the conditions in these Host Terms are met.
3. The Non-Commercial, Cost-Sharing Nature of OOT (read carefully)
This is the core of these Host Terms. OOT hosting only remains lawful cost-sharing, and outside commercial transportation regulation, if all of the following are true.
3.1 No profit
You may NOT profit from any OOT Trip. The total Contributions you receive for a Trip may only go toward offsetting your reasonable costs for that Trip (fuel, tolls, vehicle wear). They may not exceed your actual costs and may not be used to earn income. RydeHub may set or adjust per-Trip Contribution limits to keep Contributions within a reasonable cost-sharing range, and may decline or remove listings that appear designed to generate profit.
3.2 Genuine, pre-planned trips only
You may only list trips that are real journeys you intend to make regardless of whether any Rider books. You may NOT:
- Post trips speculatively, on demand, or solely because Riders might book them;
- Operate routes, schedules, or frequency that resemble a commercial transport service;
- Use OOT hosting in any commercial or professional context.
3.3 RydeHub is not the carrier and not a party to your Trip
RydeHub does not provide transportation services. RydeHub operates an online platform that lets Hosts and Riders connect and transact. RydeHub is not a party to any agreement between a Host and a Rider, is not a common carrier or public carrier, and has no control over how you conduct your Trip. The Trip is between you and your Riders.
4. Eligibility to Host
To host an OOT Trip you must:
- Be at least 18 years old and able to enter into binding contracts;
- Hold a valid Canadian driver's licence (Class 5 / equivalent or higher) that is not suspended, restricted, or expired;
- Own the vehicle you use, or have the registered owner's permission and the legal right to operate it for the Trip;
- Maintain a vehicle that is roadworthy, safely operable, and compliant with all applicable Saskatchewan vehicle and traffic laws (registration, plates, safety condition);
- Hold valid automobile insurance as described in §5; and
- Not have been banned or suspended from the RydeHub platform.
5. Insurance (Host Responsibility)
Because OOT hosting is non-commercial cost-sharing, your own personal automobile insurance is what applies to your Trip, not any policy provided by RydeHub.
- You are solely responsible for carrying valid automobile insurance that complies with Saskatchewan law (SGI) and that covers the operation of your vehicle on the Trip, including the carrying of Riders who contribute to costs.
- You are strongly advised to confirm with SGI and/or your insurer, before hosting, that your policy covers cost-sharing carpooling and is not voided or limited by carrying contributing passengers. Some policies treat carrying paying passengers as a commercial use.
- RydeHub recommends you carry, at minimum, the third-party liability coverage required by SGI, and consider higher coverage given intercity distances.
- RydeHub does not provide, arrange, broker, or guarantee any insurance for OOT Trips, and is not liable for any coverage gap, claim denial, deductible, or dispute between you and any insurer. You accept full financial responsibility for any uncovered claim arising from your Trip.
- You must verify your insurance is valid before every Trip.
6. Listing and Running a Trip
- Accurate listings. Origin, destination, route, date, departure time, available seats, vehicle details, and the Contribution must be accurate and current.
- Booked Riders only. You may only carry Riders who hold a confirmed booking made through the RydeHub platform. You may deny boarding to anyone without a confirmed booking.
- No off-platform deals. You may not request, accept, or arrange cash or any payment outside the RydeHub platform, and may not solicit Riders to book or pay off-platform.
- No substitute drivers. You may not delegate driving to another person without the prior written consent of RydeHub and all booked Riders.
- No extra charges. You may not charge for waiting time, detours, luggage, or additional stops beyond the agreed Contribution.
- Capacity & safety. Do not exceed your vehicle's lawful seating capacity or the seat-belt count. Every occupant must have a seat belt.
7. The Contribution, Service Fee & Payouts
- You receive the Contribution. The Contribution for a Trip is paid by Riders through the platform and is intended to offset your costs only (see §3).
- RydeHub's Service Fee is separate. RydeHub charges Riders a Service Fee (approximately 5% of the Rider's total) to operate the platform. This fee is RydeHub's and is shown to the Rider before booking; it does not increase your Contribution.
- Payouts. Contributions owed to you are settled through our payment processor (Stripe / Stripe Connect) to your connected account, subject to successful Trip completion, our payout schedule, and any holds for disputes, refunds, or suspected misuse.
- No cash. All Contributions must flow through the platform. Cash collection is prohibited.
- Currency. All amounts are in Canadian Dollars (CAD).
8. Host Conduct & Obligations
You agree to:
- Treat Riders with respect and comply with the Community Guidelines;
- Not discriminate against any Rider on any ground protected by the Canadian Human Rights Act or applicable Saskatchewan legislation;
- Drive lawfully, soberly, and safely, and never while impaired or distracted;
- Not bring weapons, illegal items, or controlled substances (other than lawfully possessed prescription medication) into the vehicle on a Trip;
- Honour confirmed bookings and depart at the agreed time and place absent reasonable cause;
- Report any safety incident to RydeHub promptly (see Community Guidelines / safety reporting).
Violations may result in immediate suspension, permanent removal from the platform, withheld payouts, and referral to law enforcement where appropriate.
9. Cancellations by the Host
- If you cancel a Trip with confirmed bookings, affected Riders receive a full refund of their Contribution and Service Fee.
- Riders may cancel under the OOT cancellation schedule in the Rider Terms of Use: cancellation more than 24 hours before departure is generally a full Contribution refund; less than 24 hours before departure, up to 50% of the Contribution may be retained and paid toward the Host's committed costs, with the balance refunded to the Rider.
- Repeated or last-minute Host cancellations harm Riders and may lead to reduced visibility, suspension, or removal from the platform.
10. Ratings & Reviews
After a Trip, you and your Riders may rate each other (1–5 stars) and leave feedback. Ratings support community trust and safety. You agree not to submit false, retaliatory, or manipulated ratings. RydeHub may remove ratings that violate these Host Terms or the Community Guidelines, and a low Host rating may lead to review, reduced visibility, or removal.
11. Taxes
You are responsible for determining and meeting any tax obligations arising from your activity. Genuine cost-sharing Contributions that do no more than offset your Trip costs are generally not business income, but RydeHub does not give tax advice. Consult a tax professional or the CRA if you are unsure.
12. RydeHub's Role (Platform Only)
RydeHub provides the technology platform that connects Hosts and Riders, processes payments, and offers supporting tools. RydeHub does not employ Hosts, does not provide transportation, does not own or operate vehicles, and is not a party to any Trip. Nothing in these Host Terms creates an employment, agency, partnership, or joint-venture relationship between you and RydeHub. You are a private individual sharing your own trip.
13. Disclaimer of Warranties
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE CANADIAN LAW, RYDEHUB PROVIDES THE PLATFORM "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. RYDEHUB DOES NOT WARRANT THAT RIDERS WILL BOOK YOUR TRIPS, THAT THE PLATFORM WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY RIDER WILL MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS. Nothing here excludes statutory rights that cannot be waived under Saskatchewan's Consumer Protection and Business Practices Act or other applicable law.
14. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE CANADIAN LAW, RYDEHUB AND ITS DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE, INSURANCE GAP, OR LOSS ARISING FROM A TRIP OR FROM ANOTHER USERS' CONDUCT. RYDEHUB'S AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THESE HOST TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE PLATFORM SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE TOTAL SERVICE FEES RYDEHUB EARNED FROM YOUR TRIPS IN THE SIX (6) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) $100 CAD. Nothing limits liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by RydeHub's gross negligence, or for any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable Canadian law.
15. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless RydeHub Inc., its affiliates, directors, officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of: your OOT Trips; your breach of these Host Terms; your violation of any law, regulation, or third-party right (including insurance and vehicle-for-hire law); any insurance gap or claim denial relating to your vehicle; or any dispute between you and a Rider.
16. Suspension & Termination
You may stop hosting at any time. RydeHub may suspend or permanently remove your hosting access at any time, with or without notice, for breach of these Host Terms, safety concerns, suspected profit-seeking or commercial use, fraud, or at our reasonable discretion. Obligations that arose before termination (including refunds owed to Riders) survive. Sections 3, 5, and 12–15 survive termination.
17. Privacy
Your personal information is handled under the Privacy Policy, incorporated by reference. RydeHub's collection, use, and disclosure of personal information is governed by the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), SC 2000, c. 5. RydeHub shares a Rider's and Host's contact details with each other only as needed for a confirmed Trip and for safety.
18. Governing Law
These Host Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Saskatchewan and the applicable federal laws of Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If any provision is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
19. Dispute Resolution
Before commencing formal legal action, you agree to first attempt to resolve any dispute informally by contacting legal@rydehub.com with a written description; RydeHub will use reasonable efforts to respond within 30 days. Any unresolved dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Province of Saskatchewan, Canada. To the extent permitted by law, claims must be brought individually and not as part of a class or representative action. Nothing in this section requires arbitration of, or prevents a court from hearing, claims of sexual assault or sexual harassment.
20. Changes to These Host Terms
RydeHub may modify these Host Terms. For material changes we will give notice in-app and/or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to host after the effective date means you accept the revised Host Terms.
